"Herndon" refers to the 22 foot obelisk at the Academy that is the center point for the celebration that marks the end of Plebe year. The upperclass coat the statue with Crisco after cementing a Plebe hat to the top. This year they added layers of duct tape to it. The Plebes then spent 2 hours on average creating a human pyramid to remove the cap and replace it with an upperclass hat. This year the Plebes proudly completed the task in 1 hour 19 minutes.
The celebration came amidst Matt's preparation for final exams. A real trooper, he put in hours of study prep on the flights up and back, as well as time at the hotel.
While we were there we also watched one of the dress
parades (that's Michael's company 12; he's in there somewhere!) the Men's Glee
Club, and a Blue Angels demonstration (those pictures will come next.)
